International tourism spending of Chinese tourists 2008-2021

The contribution of Chinese travelers in global tourism ranked first in the world in the past few years, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Chinese tourists spent about 106 billion U.S. dollars while traveling abroad.

Chinese millionaires and tourism

The popularity of national and international tourist destinations among Chinese millionaires had been constantly growing. Chinese millionaires preferred many activities during their travel either in their home country or abroad, out of which, shopping, staying at a luxury resort, and discovering lakes and mountains were their leading interests. According to a survey, there were many domestic destinations for Chinese millionaires in 2021, but more than half of Chinese millionaires chose to visit Sanya. The most desired international destination for Chinese millionaires was the Maldives followed by Japan.

Chinese medical tourists

With developments in the medical technology across the world, health tourism has gained popularity. Many Chinese tourists went to South Korea for medical reasons over past few years. In 2021, above 28 thousand people from China traveled to South Korea for medical treatments.
