Value of M&A deals in the U.S. Q2 2024, by industry

In the second quarter of 2024, the largest merger and acquisition (M&A) deals in the United States occurred in the technology services. The value of M&A transactions that involved companies in this sector amounted to approximately 64 billion U.S. dollars, followed by the consumers service, the finance and the energy minerals sectors with approximately 40 billion U.S. dollars’ worth of M&A deals each. The total value of M&A transactions in this period amounted to over 385 billion U.S. dollars.

In 2023, the number of M&A deals completed in the United States decreased. The number of U.S. M&A transactions diminished by more than 1,000 between 2022 and 2023. Similarly, to the leading sectors in terms of deal value, the technology services and finance sectors also saw the highest number of M&A deals completed.

Many of the world’s leading investment banks advise on merger and acquisition deals, which serves as a significant segment within the business. As of August 2024, the leading financial advisor to M&A deals in the U.S. was JPMorgan Chase & Co. They advised on deals amounting to an aggregate value of more than 267 million U.S. dollars in the first half of 2024.
