Russia was forecast to export 58.8 million metric tons of cereals in the crop year 2024/25. That was roughly six million metric tons fewer than the volume of Russia's cereal exports recorded in the previous period.
What cereals does Russia export?
Wheat is the main cereal exported from Russia. The country was predicted to trade over 48 million metric tons of wheat to other countries in 2032, being the largest exporter of that commodity worldwide. Among other cereals, which are grasses cultivated for edible components of their grains, Russia exported barley, rye, corn, and rice.
COVID-19 restrictions on cereal exports in Russia
Limits to exports of certain foods from Russia as a food security measure during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic were imposed by the country on its own as well as within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), together with Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The EAEU restrictions included cereals like rye, rice, and millet. The Russian government introduced an export quota of seven million metric tons of wheat, rye, barley, and corn between April 1 and June 30, 2020, with an exception to exports to the EAEU.

The National Marketing Year (or marketing season) refers to a 12-month period that starts with the harvest of the main crop of the season. It varies between commodities and across countries.
