In the crop year 2023/2024, cereal production in Russia was forecast at 136.9 million metric tons. That would indicate an decrease by roughly 16 million metric tons compared to the previous agricultural year. Russia allocated approximately 213 hectares of organic farmland for cereals.
What cereals are produced in Russia?
The main cereals cultivated in the country are wheat, barley, rye, and maize. They are used in production of flour, bread and pastry, compound feed, rice, or groats. With a wheat production volume of 91 million metric tons, Russia is the fourth-largest producer of that commodity worldwide. Furthermore, the country ranks as the second-largest barley producing region after the European Union, with an output of over 20 million metric tons.
Russian cereal production outlook
Russian gross production of cereals and grain is forecast to increase to nearly 135 million metric tons per year in 2024, compared to roughly 30 million metric tons produced in 2018. In 2020, the grain harvest is expected to be lower compared to the previous year in some regions due to frosts and drought, but higher in others. The Southern, Central, and Volga Federal Districts are the main production regions of cereals and grain in the country.

**Forecast.
The source specified the following information:
"Production refers to the full amount of the harvest before any deductions are taken for post-harvest losses, seed use, etc.
Total cereals include wheat, coarse grains (maize, barley, sorghum, oats, rye, millet and other minor grains not elsewhere specified) and rice (in milled equivalent).
Commodity balances apply a marketing year (or marketing season) approach, meaning that values refer to a twelve month period that starts with the harvest of the main crop (which may or may not coincide with the calendar year)."
