China COSCO Shipping Cor., Ltd. was the top-ranked logistics company in China, with an annual revenue of almost 576 billion yuan from its logistics division in 2022. In that year, COSCO's income in logistics was more than twice that of Xiamen Xiangyu Group Co., Ltd., which ranked second in China.
Chinese logistics market
In recent years, China has been transforming its logistics industry from labor-intensive to technology-intensive and upgrading from traditional mode to smart logistics. The total value of the logistics market in China surpassed 352 trillion yuan in 2023, which was related to the rapid growth of the online retail business. National logistics costs have been growing accordingly, but their share in GDP has been slightly decreasing, at about 14.4 percent in 2023.
Express delivery in China
Amid the rising influence of online shopping in China, the express delivery segment has become the new highlight of the country's postal industry. China's parcel volume has grown eighteen-fold over the past decade, reaching more than 108 billion pieces in 2021. About 85 percent of the demand was provided by inter-city couriers.
