Global greenhouse gas emissions shares 2020, by sector

Global greenhouse gas emissions amounted to roughly 47.51 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO₂e) in 2020. The electricity and heat sector accounted for 32 percent of of this total, making it the biggest contributor to global GHG emissions that year. The majority of electricity and heat sector emissions come from coal-fired power plants, which are the largest source of GHG emissions worldwide.
