Pharmaceutical company Allergan generated revenues of approximately 16.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2019, an increase of around 300 million U.S. dollars on the previous year. The company’s total revenue has increased more than threefold since 2014.

Allergan has three distinct operating segments: U.S. specialized therapeutics, U.S. general medicine, and international. Sales from the U.S. specialized therapeutics segment contributed the largest share of revenues in 2019. This segment focuses on sales of branded products in the United States in key therapeutic areas such as medical aesthetics and eye care. Sales in the therapeutic area of medical aesthetics generated the most revenue in 2019.

Botox sales provide cash injection

Allergan is perhaps best known for one product: Botox Cosmetic, which is an injection intended to improve the facial appearance of adults. However, in the United States, the company’s leading specialty product is Botox Therapeutic, which uses the muscle-paralyzing injection to treat medical conditions, such as chronic migraines. The consolidated sales revenues of the two distinct types of Botox continue to rise both in the United States and internationally.
