The United States Navy
The United States Navy, first founded in 1775, is one of the branches of the United States Armed Forces. It is the largest navy in the world and deals with ocean-based locations. As the naval warfare branch of the United States, it has over 40 domestic naval bases. Despite being the largest in the world, the number of active duty U.S. Navy personnel has steadily decreased since 1995. In 2018, the U.S. Navy had an estimated 121 surface combatants at their disposal.
Budget of the U.S. Navy
The United States is the country that spends the most amount of money on their armed forces. The budget of the U.S. Navy has been increasing since 2001, and is expected to nearly double by 2020 in comparison to 2001. On the other hand, the budget of the U.S. Air Force has remained somewhat consistent since 2007. The budget of the U.S. Armed Forces has been a largely contested topic domestically, with a popular opinion being that the U.S. spends too much money on its military.
