The global chocolate market is dominated by a few major players, the largest of which were Kraft Foods/Cadbury and Mars, according to data from 2011. Both food conglomerates made up a 15 percent share of the global chocolate market in that year.
Chocolate Market Worldwide
As of 2019, Western Europe is the largest market for chocolate confectionary of any world region, making up 33 percent of the global market. Ironically, South America makes up the smallest share of the global chocolate confectionary market, despite being the region in which chocolate was originally produced. The top three countries in terms of per capita chocolate consumption in 2017 were Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, in descending order.

In 2015, the food companies Kraft and Heinz merged to create one of the largest food and beverage companies in the world, the Kraft Heinz Company. The company generated around 26.27 billion U.S. dollars in net sales in 2018, a figure which had stayed more or less stable in the previous years. Condiments and sauces made up the largest share of Kraft Heinz’s net sales of any product category, followed by cheese and dairy.
