Ocean Park Hong Kong is the oldest existing theme park in Hong Kong and one of the largest theme parks in Asia. The amusement park recieved over 5.8 million visits each year before the coronavirus pandemic. In 2022, the number of Ocean Park's visits dropped by more than 75 percent to around 1.4 million, before recovering to 2.1 million in 2023.Â

Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park Hong Kong are the largest and most visited theme parks in Hong Kong. Both theme parks were built on the coast. The largest theme park in Hong Kong, Ocean Park, was first built in the 1970s. Before Hong Kong Disneyland’s opening, Ocean Park was the most frequented theme park in the city. Since 2015, the attendance at Ocean Park started to decrease. In 2016, there were more visits to Disneyland than to Ocean Park for the first time. Compared to Disneyland Hong Kong, the rollercoasters in Ocean Park are said to be more thrilling, while most attractions in Disneyland are suitable for kids.
Development of Ocean Park Hong Kong
Following several expansion plans, Ocean Park now covers an area of over 91.5 hectares and operates numerous attractions including four roller coasters. As well as being an amusement park, Ocean Park plays a role in education and scientific research. Ocean Park is home to over 12,000 animals. Among them are giant pandas, dolphins, and some other endangered animals including the Chinese sturgeon. Like other theme parks in Hong Kong, Ocean Park is largely dependent on overseas tourists, especially tourists from mainland China. On festivals and national holidays, special celebrations are held in Ocean Park.
