The British multinational utility company Centrica has employees working in various segments. Most of the company's 21,000 workers employed in 2023 were in the British Gas segment.
What is Centrica?
Centrica was formed in February 1997, following a split of British Gas plc, and is focused mainly on gas production and gas sales. It still operates under British Gas in England, Wales, and Scotland, whereas sales in Ireland are processed under Bord Gáis Energy. British Gas is one of the UK's so-called 'Big Six' large legacy energy suppliers.
Centrica's financial performance
Following a review of its trading businesses, Centrica revised revenue performance figures for 2018 onwards. As a result, there was a notable decline in revenues generated between 2017 and 2020, when Direct Energy discontinued operations. However, Centrica’s revenue increased ever since.
