This statistic shows the share of American students in grades 9 to 12 who have tried smoking a cigarette for the first time before the age of 13, by gender and ethnicity, as of 2017. During the survey, 10 percent of male student respondents with a white, non-Hispanic background stated they had tried smoking a cigarette for the first time before the age of 13.
