Binge drinking prevalence was highest among female students at 12.2 percent. The source defines binge drinking as four or more drinks of alcohol in a row if they are female or five or more drinks of alcohol in a row if they are male, within a couple of hours.

The survey was conducted at all regular public and private schools with students in at least one of grades 9–12 in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
According to the source: "Four or more drinks of alcohol in a row (if they were female) or five or more drinks of alcohol in a row (if they were male), within a couple of hours, on at least 1 day during the 30 days before the survey."
