North Antelope Rochelle Mine, located in Wyoming, was the leading coal mine in the U.S. based on production in 2023, with an annual production of around 62 million short tons. At the same time, the second-largest cola mine was Black Thunder Mine in Wyoming, owned by Thunder Basin Coal Company LLC with an annual production of 60.6 million short tons.
