Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) refers to the amount retained by gambling operators after the payment of winnings prior to operating cost deductions. During the period April 2022 to March 2023, the GGY of the entire gambling industry in Great Britain amounted to 15.12 billion British pounds. 

Increase in online gambling

Interest in remote and online gambling has risen in recent years, as reflected in these sectors' gross gambling yield. Within the past decade, the number of new players registering online has grown steadily, reaching over 35 million between April 2022 and March 2023. For remote casinos alone, GGY in this sector reached over four billion British pounds in 2023. 

Demographics

Gambling participation in Great Britain is slightly higher among males than among females, with over half of male Britons over 18 regularly participating in gambling as of 2024. Meanwhile, the age groups with the highest share of gamblers in Great Britain in the same year were 45 to 54-years old and 55 to 64-years old. This was also the case for online gambling in Great Britain.
