In May 2023, there were more building permits for new residential construction in the United States than at the end of 2022. The coronavirus pandemic led to big decreases in April 2020, with less than a 100,000 permits issues in April 2020. By July 2020, however, there were 139,000 new permits, one of the highest figures since 2007. U.S. new home construction has followed similar trends in the past years.
