Leading European countries in beer production 2023
In 2023, Germany was the leading producer of beer in Europe. German production amounted to over 84 million hectoliters and was over twice the volume of production in Spain. Russian production was the second largest in Europe with 83 million hectoliters.
Beer production in the Americas
Production across the Atlantic outpaced German production and U.S. breweries produced 165 million barrels in 2023 (each holding 1.17 hectoliters). Brazil and Mexico were the second and third largest producers of beer in the Americas. Both countries production in 2022 outpaced German production with 147 million hectoliters and 141 million hectoliters respectively.
Beer production worldwide
Chinese production numbers, however, dwarfed all other countries production numbers. In 2021, Chinese breweries produced over 359 million hectoliters of beer. Chinese production was so significant, that production in Asia was larger than that in Europe and close to that of the Americas. The only producer in Africa with an output over 20 million hectoliters was South Africa.
