The net absorption of retail real estate in the United States amounted to approximately four million square feet in 2022 and was projected to increase until 2027. The most space is to be absorbed in 2024, when the amount of space physically occupied, minus the space vacated was forecast to reach 8.7 million square feet. In the first quarter of 2023, some of the markets with highest retail real estate demand were Houston, TX, New York City Metro, NY, and Charlotte, NC.
