Ice skating participation in the U.S. 2010-2023

The number of ice-skating participants in the U.S. aged six years and older, amounted to approximately 11.44 million in 2023, up from around 10 million the previous year. The figure reported in 2023 was the highest since 2011, when ice skating participation amounted to 11.63 million individuals in the North American country.

Ice skating vs. roller skating

Ice skating is a popular recreational activity and/or sport in the United States that can be performed both, indoors and outdoors. Despite its high participation number, a larger share of Americans still prefer to skate on paved solid ground, rather than on ice. In 2017, the number of participants aged six years and older in roller skating amounted to nearly 12 million.

Sports on ice

Another popular sports among Americans that is also performed on ice is hockey - in 2017, the number of participants aged six years or older in ice hockey amounted to over two and a half million.
