Gymnastics participation in the U.S. 2010-2024
The number of participants in gymnastics aged six years and older in the United States amounted to 5.1 million. This represented an increase over the previous year's figure of 4.8 million.
Gymnastics in the U.S.
Gymnastics primarily include exercises that require balance, flexibility, strength and control. These exercises can include vault, floor exercise, pommel horse, parallel bars, uneven bars, balance beam, high bar, and still rings. According to a Statista Global Consumer Survey published in December 2024, 13 percent of survey participants followed gymnastics in the U.S., making the sport more popular than swimming, volleyball and winter sports.
High school gymnastics
Despite a growth in the number of people involved in gymnastics in the U.S. across the board, participation in high school gymnastics in the U.S. was at a ten-year low in 2024. Overall, girls involved in gymnastics in high school significantly outnumbered the number of boys taking part in the sport that year. This is also shown by the large number of U.S. high school gymnastics programs on offer for girls, which reached 1,689 schools compared to 63 for boys in the 2023/24 school year.
