Most nuclear reactors in the United States will lose their operating license in the 2030s or in the 2040s. In 2034 alone, 10 nuclear power plants will need their license renewed. Only eight nuclear reactors have operating licenses until 2050 or later. In 2022, there were 92 operational nuclear power plants in the U.S.
