The statistic portrays the number of late departures of major U.S. air carriers from 2000 to 2021. In 2021, over one million flights of major U.S. air carriers were not on time. Late departures are strongly seasonal and are affected by weather and heavy demand in winter and summer months. The term late is defined as 15 minutes after the scheduled departure time.
