The mobile phone unit shipments worldwide increased from 2009 to 2016, to then plateau and slowly decrease. The mobile phone shipments were significantly impacted by the coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic in 2020 and by the economic downturn. In 2023, 1.15 billion units are forecast to be shipped.
