As of February 2025, around 47 percent of the 625 largest publicly listed companies in the United States by annual revenue had net zero targets. However, these targets varied by scope. While 19 percent of companies had targets across scopes 1, 2, and 3, around 14 percent excluded scope 3 emissions from these targets. Scope 3 emissions across the value chain, such as emissions from sold products, can often account for more than 90 percent of a company's total carbon footprint.
