As of 2023, nearly six million households in the United States received financial aid with energy bills from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP is one of the federal programs that assist low-income families in the country.
In the first weeks of his term, President Trump has instructed to freeze federal funds and revoked the order within 48 hours, creating uncertainty and confusion over federal spending for social assistance services such as LIHEAP and Medicaid.
