Global cement emissions increased by 23 percent between 2010 and 2023 to 2.36 billion metric tons (GtCO₂). Under the IEA's Announced Pledges Scenario, in which all climate commitments, Nationally Determined Contributions, and longer-term net zero targets are met, CO₂ emissions from cement would fall by more than 40 percent by 2050, to around 1.1 GtCO₂. However, global cement emissions could rise to 2.5 GtCO₂ by mid-century, when only Stated Policies are taken into account. Neither scenario would be aligned with reaching net zero emissions by 2050.
