In 2023, conflict began on 25 April in Sudan between two factions of the Sudanese military, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This combat then escalated into a devastating civil war. As a consequence, over 3.3 million displaced persons have sought refuge in neighboring African countries as of 2024. Most of them are in Egypt, which hosts more than 1.2 million refugees from Sudan. Chad follows as having the second-largest number, at around 930,000 Sudanese refugees.
