In 2023, among different vehicle categories, the car sector in South Africa sold the most new passenger vehicles at around 348,000. However, this was a decrease of around a 4.4 percent from the previous year. During the period under review, the largest increase in sales was seen in the heavy truck and bus sector, with over 24,600 new vehicles sold in 2023, representing an increase of close to 13 percent from the year prior.
