In 2024, Walt Disney Company, Viacom18, and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) entered into a joint venture to create one of the largest media companies in India, JioStar, valued at 8.5 billion U.S. dollars. Over 63 percent of the company was controlled by RIL, with stakes distributed between the conglomerate itself and its media subsidiary Viacom18. The joint venture combines established TV channel brands such as Colours and Star with digital platforms such as JioCinema and Hotstar.
