In recent years, the European market has been massively influenced by political events such as the war in Ukraine and the U.S. election. In 2024, this pressure was visible in the purchasing behavior of many Germans. Around 47 percent of respondents in Germany stated that they pay more attention to offers and promotions, while 28 percent shopped less overall. Only around a third of all respondents stated that the recent events had no influence at all on their purchasing behavior.
How does the current political situation affect your personal purchasing behavior?
This question was asked in the survey with the following wording: “There is war in Ukraine and the Middle East, Donald Trump is once again US President and Germany is facing new elections following the break-up of the traffic light coalition. How is the current political situation affecting your purchasing behavior?”
