In 2023, regional contributions to exchange-traded derivative (ETD) volumes varied significantly by asset class. The Asia Pacific region dominated equity and commodity derivatives trading, with 84 billion and nine billion contracts traded in these categories, respectively. The Americas was the leading market for ETF and interest rate derivatives. On the other hand, the EMEA region played a minor role in all categories. EMEA’s most significant contribution was in interest rate derivatives, with 1.2 billion contracts traded (20 percent of the total).
