In an October 2023 survey, most consumers in China, Germany, India, and the United States were concerned about the end-to-end environmental impact of electric vehicle batteries. Nearly nine in 10 respondents in India reported such concerns, compared to around six in 10 respondents in the United States, which also recorded a larger share of consumers who were unsure about their concerns.
Distribution of consumers in India, Germany, China, and the United States who were concerned or not concerned by the end-to-end environmental impact of an electric vehicle battery, as of October 2023
The original question is "To what extent are you concerned about the end-to-end environmental impact of an EV battery (e.g., mineral mining, manufacturing, source of electricity during multiple lifecycles, end-of-life recycling)?"
The sample included 817 participants form China, 1,273 participants from Germany, 864 participants from India, and 969 participants from the United States.
Figures might not add up to 100 due to rounding. "Concerned" includes respondents answering "somewhat concerned" or "very concerned". "Not concerned" includes respondents having answered "not at all concerned" or "not very concerned".
