In 2024, the majority of consumers in South Africa preferred gasoline/diesel type engines for their next vehicle purchase. This shows an increase of one percent from the previous year. Hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) engines followed at only 12 percent, which shows that moving away from internal combustion engines (ICE) remains problematic for consumers, particularly due to energy shortages and financial constraints.
