Estimated number of new clothing items in circulation Australia 2023
In 2023, an estimated 1.46 billion pieces of new clothing were in circulation in Australia. Around 1.44 billion new clothing items were imported, while around 40 million new clothing items were manufactured domestically, of which around 24 million pieces were exported out of the country. In terms of Australia's dispersal of the new clothing items in circulation in 2023, around 1.42 billion new clothing pieces were sold, with the remaining new unsold items either donated for reuse, exported, or destroyed.
