In the first quarter of 2024, Grenada's banking sector recorded the highest liquid asset to total assets ratio in Latin America, exceeding 50 percent. St. Lucia followed closely with a ratio of 50 percent. In contrast, Panama and Paraguay reported the lowest ratios, at 9.7 percent and 8.3 percent, respectively. The liquid asset to total assets ratio measures the proportion of a bank's assets that are easily convertible to cash without significant loss of value. A higher ratio indicates stronger liquidity, suggesting the bank can more easily meet short-term obligations. Conversely, a lower ratio may indicate tighter liquidity, potentially increasing vulnerability to financial stress.
