According to a May 2024 survey conducted in the United States found that 13 percent of parents believe that 13 years old is the appropriate age for children to have their first smartphone. The same number of respondents reported thinking 16 was an appropriate age. Overall, one-sixth of parents in the U.S. reported they would find it acceptable for children younger than nine to have access to a smartphone.
