In 2023, machinery and transport equipment registered the highest trade surplus in terms of European Union (EU) trade with Africa, at around 27.3 billion euros. This was followed by the category of chemicals and related products. In contrast, mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials recorded the highest trade deficit, at over 73.5 billion euros. As of 2023, the EU achieved an overall goods trade deficit of nearly 35 billion euros with Africa.
