Strategies to combat staffing shortages in nursing homes in the U.S. 2022-2024

In 2024, around nine in ten surveyed nursing homes increased wages to try to recruit and retain staff. Eight in ten also strengthened their workplace culture. Similar rates of implementing these recruitment and retention strategies were found in 2022. Despite this, nearly seven in ten nursing homes still reported lower staffing levels than pre-pandemic in 2024.
