Leading reasons for unused gift card balances in the U.S. 2024

Every so often, gift cards are more of a gift to the retailer than it is for the intended recipient. In 2024, about a third of consumers in the United States, who had an unused gift card balance, admitted that they did not make use of it, because they had simply forgotten about the gift card entirely. Over one in five even said the voucher had expired before they got to the point of trying to use it.
