In 2024, employer sponsored health insurance (ESI) covered approximately 1.2 million 25 year-olds as dependents, compared to 300 thousand 26 year-olds in the United States. In the U.S. 26 year-olds are no longer eligible to enroll as dependents on a parent's plan. This explains the significant increase in 26 year-olds and 27-year-olds enrolled as policy holders with ESI.
