Global aviation passenger demand 1990-2021

Global aviation passenger demand has increased four-fold since 1990. People travelled some two trillion passenger kilometers in 1990, but by 2019 this figure had increased to roughly 8.5 trillion kilometers. COVID-19-related disruptions to the aviation industry caused global passenger demand to plummet 65 percent in 2020, to less than three trillion kilometers. However, the following year saw passenger demand rebound sharply as restrictions eased.
