The Liberal Democratic Party won 191 seats in the 50th House of Representatives general election in Japan, held on October 27, 2024, losing its majority in parliament for the first time since 2009. Together with its coalition party, Komeito, the LDP secured 215 out of 233 seats needed for a majority in parliament. Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba called snap elections after taking office on October 1, 2024, succeeding Fumio Kishida who resigned due to political scandals involving LDP politicians. The General elections of members of the House of Representatives are held every four years, unless the lower house is dissolved earlier.
