In 2023, the median paid nursing hours per resident day (HPRD) stood at 3.78 hours at skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) in the United States. This is the hours of care a resident receives per day. New CMS regulations mandate that SNFs that receive Medicare or Medicaid funding, must provide at least 3.28 HPRD, with a minimum of 0.55 HPRD from RN and 2.45 HPRD from nurse aides.
