In 2022, Nigeria produced the largest amount of yam in Africa with 61.2 million metric tons. Ghana followed as the second largest producer of yam with 10.7 million metric tons. Moreover, Côte d'Ivoire produced 7.6 million metric tons while the yield for Benin reached 3.2 million metric tons, rounding out the top four producers of yam in Africa. Other countries, such as Togo and Cameroon, had notable but smaller outputs compared to the leading producers.
