In the United States, Amedisys Inc., based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was the largest home health agency based on the number of patients served as of 2023. This was followed by two companies, Enhabit Home Health & Hospice based in Dallas, Texas, and Bayada Home Health Care in New Jersey.
Amedisys Inc is set to be acquired by UnitedHealth Group's Optum. The 3.3 billion U.S. dollar merger should have been completed by the end of 2024, but has been pushed back amid federal challenge to the deal.
