As of September 2024, Asia's total operating liquefied natural gas (LNG) import capacity exceeded 680 million metric tons per annum. Japan held the largest share, accounting for over 35 percent of the region's operating capacity. Meanwhile, China led in LNG import capacity under development, with more than 226 million metric tons per annum in planned additions.
