According to a survey in 2023, the majority of respondents indicated that the wish for better outcome for First Nations communities, a connection of Australia's founding document with First Nations history, and listening to the views of the First Peoples was a significant factor influencing their vote in the Australian referendum in October 2023. Many voters' disagreement with the proposed change being too risky and a concern about dividing the country due to the referendum was also an important factor.
