Over the past three decades, the global death rates of women decreased in all world regions. Interestingly, though, the death rate among women in Sub-Saharan Africa increased before it started decreasing in the early 2000s. There was an increase in female deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, the death rate of women between 15 and 60 years was still significantly higher in Sub-Saharan Africa than in the other world regions. Female death rates are lower than among their male counterparts.
