China: arms imports by country 2023

In 2023, total arms imports in China were estimated at approximately 471 million trend-indicator values (TIV). Russia is the most important weapons exporter for China and accounted for 79 percent of all Chinese arms imports between 2000 and 2023.

The TIV is based on the known unit production costs of a core set of weapons and is intended to represent the transfer of military resources rather than the financial value of the transfer.

The depicted import value is only an indicator and does not correspond to the actual financial value of the transfers.
