Difference between the number of housing units completed and the number of new families formed in Canada from 2016 to 2022, by metropolitan areas
The figures were calculated by Statista using data from Statistics Canada as the number of housing units completed minus the number of new families formed that year. The number of families formed that year was calculated as the total number of families in a given year minus the number of families in the previous year.
The figures on the number of families include census families, such as couples with or without children and single parents, and not in census families, such as single people without children.
